Felisian Chronicles - Chapter Six
Ally felt a quick bolt of pain creep through her as her bottom made contact with the floor. She winced and rubbed at her side, her face flushing heavily in embarrassment as she looked up to discover who or what she'd collided with. What she saw was the form of a curly haired individual, practically mirroring her movements as he gently rubbed at his side and winced in pain, an armful of books scattered about him on the floor.
"A-Ah! I'm so sorry!" Ally cried out, sitting up fully and beginning to stack up the fallen books, her blush intensifying as she inwardly scolded herself for being so clumsy.
"N-No! Don't be sorry!" the male responded, the grey ears utop his head flickering back and forth nervously as he helped her pick up the books. "It's my fault, I wasn't paying attention!"
"Neither was I." said Ally with a nervous laugh, handing over the books she had collected and casting him a curious look. She could see he was trying not to look at her and this made her slightly confused. The young man appeared to be older than her by a few years, with curly brown hair and rather startlingly green eyes. He was pretty good looking, she realized suddenly. However, he was obviously very nervous...
Green eyes stole a quick glance at her as the young man accepted the offered books before slowly standing to his feet, an action that Ally mimicked. "I've never seen you before.." he said, sounding almost surprised at this statement, although he continued to try not to look at her.
"I'm.. Err.. New in town." Ally responded, her curiosity peaked by the evasive mannerisms of this individual. It was then that she noticed something. He was wearing a white lab coat. 'Did he sound surprised because...?' "Are you.. A doctor?"
There was a pause and then his green eyes finally met with hers and he cast her a shy smile. "Actually, I am.. I'm new, obviously, but yes. That's why I was surprised I'd never seen you before."
"Well, it's nice to meet you! I guess I'll be seeing you again at some point then." she responded, feeling some what self-concious as she stared into his eyes. 'His eyes are so beautiful..' She nervously ran a hand through her hair and it was then that the doctor's eyes widdened in surprise as this action made the ruby heart quite visible on her forehead.
"Me?" said Ally, visibly startled by his reaction.
"That thing on your forehead... Are you... Are you the Queen?!"
Ally nearly leapt out of her skin at his statement, she quickly moved towards him and put her finger to her lips, shushing him. "Not so loud.. It's not supposed to be advertised yet."
"Sorry.. I was just.." he trailed off, blushing heavily as he stared at her for a moment before moving into a bow, which looked quite awkward thanks to his armful of books. "Forgive me, Your Highness!"
Ally sweatdropped and let out a soft sigh before she reached out and gently placed a hand on his shoulder. "Don't be sorry, Doctor. And please, I'd prefer you called me Ally."
The doctor stiffened slightly at her touch, his face reddening all the more as his eyes met hers with a look of uncertainty crossing his face. "Y-You're sure?"
"Of course! What's your name anyways, Doctor?"
"Oh! I'm sorry!" The doctor's face became even more red and he quickly looked away again. "I'm Doctor William MacLellan. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"And I you!"
"Err.. Well, did you need any help finding anything?" William asked, looking slightly nervous again, trying to figure out where to look. It was a bit hard not to look at her, but he didn't want to stare.
"Oh! N-No! I was just.. Browsing.." Ally responded with a shy smile. "I actually need to try and get back to the weapons shop soon, I just wanted to take a look at the library first. I just hope I can find my way back, I'm really bad with directions!"
"Well, if you need an escort.. Th-The weapons shop is on the way to my office, I could show you the way. I was about to head out anyways.."
"That would be great! You really wouldn't mind?"
The doctor relaxed somewhat and cast her a kind smile before shaking his head. "No, I wouldn't mind at all. Err, this way." He rather awkwardly turned away from her and started towards the front desk rather silently. 'Why did I say that? This is going to be so awkward.. But I want to help her.. But what are we going to talk about?'
As they reached the front desk, the pretty librarian from before cast them both smiles and greeted them with a cheerful hello.
"How are you doing today, William?" she asked cheerily, taking each of the books and scanning their spine with her finger, a blue light lightly shining from the tip of it.
"Ah, not bad, Katriana. Thanks for asking." said William, casting a shy smile at the woman, painfully aware of Ally's curious gaze looking between the two of them.
'I wonder if he likes her..' The Felisian Queen and Katriana were both thinking, both of them glancing at each other and smiling.
"I'm Katriana!" the librarian said to the Queen, extending her free hand out to her.
"Ally!" Ally responded, taking the woman's hand and beaming back at her. It was nice to finally have someone extend a hand to her instead of bowing.
"Oh! As in.." the woman lowered her voice knowingly. "Santra?"
Ally blushed, looking almost as startled as William did.
"How did you know?"
"Just a hunch." the woman responded kindly, handing William back his books. "Is there anything I can help you with today, Your Highness?"
"Uh.. No, thank you. I'll be back within the next few days, though." Ally responded, casting another shy smile at the librarian. "I'll be sure to come say hello next time."
"I'll be seeing you soon then, Miss Ally. And don't worry, your secret is safe with me." there was an almost elegant look to Katriana as she smiled to Ally. She then turned her attention to William, "I assume I'll be seeing you again, as well, William. Keep up the good work."
The young man blushed once again and nodded his head in affirmation. "I will. See you later, Katriana."
And with that, Ally followed William out of the library and back the way she came. At first, things were fairly quiet and Ally continually glanced at the young man, who grew increasingly more nervous as they walked together. The silence itself was making Ally feel slightly awkward, but it was hard to know what to say to a person you hardly knew. Eventually, she decided to bite the bullet and try and start up a conversation, although it turned out to be pretty much one sided.
"So, how long have you been a doctor, William?"
"Uh... Not very long.."
"Did you always want to be a doctor?"
".... What made you want to be a doctor?"
Ally sweatdropped, not really sure what else to say. He certainly wasn't very good at conversation. 'What else can I say...?'
'Why do I always kill conversations, I never know what to say..' William thought nervously, glancing over at Ally, who had finally gone silent. This was so awkward. 'Why is it so hard for me to talk to pretty girls? I guess.. Because they ARE pretty..' he blushed lightly and let out an inward sigh before asking. "S-So.. Anyways.. Uhm.."
Ally looked up at him hopefully, her ears perking up. 'Well, at least he doesn't hate me..'
"H-How are you liking Felis?" 'Lame question.. Oh well..'
"Felis?" Ally took a quick look around and then smiled softly, "It's beautiful. The people here are all really nice, err.. Well, almost all of them." Deacon's face popped into her head and she made a face.
"Almost? Did someone do something to you?" William couldn't fathom any of the Felisians he knew being rude to a stranger, especially not someone pretty like her.
"Oh.. Just Deacon.. We've gotten in two fights since we met yesterday." Ally sweatdropped, realizing how awful that sounded. 'I hope he doesn't think I'm hard to get along with...'
'Oh, Deacon...' "I should have guessed that." William cast her a sympathetic look for a moment before turning away once again. "He isn't very well liked..."
"You know him?"
"Not really. I've seen him around, but he never says anything to me. Craig's talked to me before, though. He's your other bodyguard, right?"
"Right. That's who I'm going to meet now."
William nodded and there was a silence between them again, although it didn't seem as bad this time as it had before.
'He's really nice...' Ally thought to herself in the silence, her blue eyes tracing over his face in profile. 'And very handsome.. I wonder how old he is, anyways?'
She blushed heavily and turned her head so it was facing the way she was walking. The voice had taken her completely off guard, but she relaxed quickly when she saw the voice belonged to Craig, who waved from a ways down the street.
"Hi, Craig!" she called, waving back to him before turning to William with a smile. "I guess he was on his way to meet me after all."
"Guess so." he responded, casting her another shy smile. 'I guess this will be good-bye.. I wonder when I'll see her again?'
"Thanks for walking with me, William. It was really nice to meet someone from outside the castle. Hopefully we'll meet again soon."
He blushed at her comment and then slowly smiled, "W-Well.. If you come to the library regularily... We definitely will."
"I'm glad!" Ally responded, realizing immediatly that it was true. Maybe she liked him a bit.. Just a bit, though.
"Oh! I see you met Doctor MacLellan!" Craig exclaimed, once they were in easier talking distance. "How's it going, William?"
"It's going well, Craig. How's everything going at the palace?"
"Aside from Deacon being his usual self, all is going well." Craig responded with a chuckle, "Did you guys meet at the library?"
"Yah. I kind of bumped into him." Ally admitted with a nervous laugh. "He offered to help show me the way back to the shop. I get lost easily."
"Well, thanks for the help, William. I was planning on bringing her in to you and Robert on Monday for a check-up actually. Any time in particular that you have open?"
William felt himself blush and his eyes found their way to Ally. He hadn't thought about that.. 'I'm going to have to examine her?! It didn't even occur to me.. I can hardly look her in face when I talk to her, how am I supposed to do this?!' His eyes travelled back to Craig and he forced a smile, replying, "Uhh, whenever you aren't too busy.."
"We'll be by in the morning then."
William glanced off to the side and felt suddenly torn. Part of him was relieved to see the office up ahead, but part of him didn't want to leave yet. He actually kind of liked talking to Ally.. Oh well, he knew better than to get involved. "I'll see you on Monday then. Bye, Craig, Ally."
"See you later, William!" Craig responded with a wave.
"A-Ah! I hadn't realized-!" 'He's leaving already?' "See you later, William! Thanks again, for your help!"
"My pleasure." he waved and then was off into the office, leaving a confused Ally and a rather oblivious Craig.
