The Felisian Chronicles - Chapter Three
"May I come in?"
Craig let out a sigh of relief as the gentle, feminine voice came through the wooden door.
"Come in, Stella."
The door opened and in came a beautiful and mature looking cat-girl maid. In her arms, she carried a silver tray with a tea pot, sugar, milk and two tea cups balanced on top of it. She set the tray down and curtsied to the both of them.
"Thank you, Stella. This is.. This is Her Highness, the Queen."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty. I'm Stella, I'll be one of your personal maids from today onwards. Oh, as well as my partner, Melody.." The maid gave a short bow and then glanced at the door with a frown. "Where is that girl, anyways..?"
Ally studied the woman with a look of surprise. Stella looked only a little bit older than she was, with long blonde hair and bright green eyes that seemed to shine through with kindness. Ally liked her already.
"Well, it is nice to meet you, as well, Miss Stella." Ally bowed back, causing Craig to choke on a sip of tea he was drinking, before he started chuckling to himself.
"You aren't supposed to bow to your servants, your highness." Craig responding, his eyes dancing with amusement as he watched his Queen. He'd never expected to see her do that!
Ally frowned and a light blush came to her face as she said, "Will you both just call me Ally? Please? I hate this 'Your Highness' thing. It just doesn't suit me."
Her two companions turned and cast her a startled look, slowly nodding to show that they had heard her request.
"If it is okay with you, Y-...Ally.." Stella responding carefully, looking a bit nervous.
"Thank you, Stella."
"Me, too?" Craig's eyes were wide with shock as he motioned to himself dumbfoundedly. "Are you sure it's okay?"
Ally nodded, "Of course. We're friends now, aren't we?"
The young man's eyes softened fondly and he nodded his agreement.
"If you don't mind someone like me being your friend..Ally.."
"Sorry I'm late!" A nervous sounding voice came from just outside the door, catching hold of everyone's attention. Another maid skipped into the room, with a plate filled with various cookies and cakes, her long pigtails bouncing as she walked into the room. She looked even younger than Ally. "I wanted to make you some snacks, Your Highness. I hope you like sweets!"
"Very much, as a matter of fact." A smile formed on Ally's face as she watched the girl come towards her. "And as I just told these two, I would really appreciate if you could call me Ally. Please?"
The girl was visibly stunned for a moment, but a bright smiled quickly crossed the young girl's face, "It's pleasure to meet you, Miss Ally. I'm Melody, Stella's partner." she held out the plate for Ally and watched nervously as her mistress selected a square of some sort and took a small bite of it, chewing it almost painfully slowly. Melody really hoped that the girl would like it, but she had no idea. The anticipation seemed to build up within her, but to her surprise, the Queen glanced up at her and smiled.
"It's delicious! Do you think you could teach me how to make it? I love baking, but I am not very good at it."
Melody's face lit up with child-like happiness as she set the tray on the table and then clasped Ally's hands in her own.
"It'd be my pleasure, Miss Ally!"
The two girls shared a smile, while Stella watched with a look of utter surprise,
"M-Melody.." she murmered, although a smile came to her face once she realised her friend wasn't going to get in trouble for being so bold. "Come on, Mel. We should leave these two to their talking."
"Oh! I completely forgot!" Melody blushed lightly and quickly released the hands of her new employer, postively beaming as she headed towards the door with Stella. "Bye bye, Ally! Craig!"
"Thanks again, girls." Craig called with a wave, a bright smile on his face, as well.
"Just call us if you need anything." Stella replied gently, waving a hand as she and Melody headed out the door.
"See you later!" Ally called, waving until she saw the door close behind them. She then turned back to Craig with a smile on her face, finishing eating the treat she had been given. Cake really was not something that should be eaten for breakfast, but in this case, she really didn't mind.
"If you want any other maids, just let us know."
Ally nodded, "Okay. But I can't see why I would need any more than two.. Even two is shocking!"
Craig chuckled, taking a sip of his tea before continuing where he left off, "As I was saying, I have a serious matter to discuss with you."
"Oh?" Ally finished stirring her tea and then brought the tea cup to her lips, sipping it as she waited to hear what else there was to know. Hopefully nothing worse.
"The council of elders has futher orders. They want you to be.. Well, at least engaged by your nineteenth bithday...."
Ally nearly spit out her tea this time and she coughed a few times before staring up at Craig with wide eyes. "What?! That's in six months!!"
"I know...." Craig responded with a frown, looking really uncomfortable.
"But.. I'm too young to get married! Can't I refuse? I am the Queen, after all, aren't I?"
"If you don't choose, the council will choose a prince for you to marry themselves."
"I know, but you can't risk angering them. They take care of everything right now, finances, planetary relations, disputes.. Everything! And unless you want to risk them dumping all of that responsibility on you, you can't risk making them angry..."
Ally slumped into her seat, her kitty ears flattening against her head with her apparent sadness. "What am I supposed to do now..? I don't have a boyfriend, let alone a guy I can just up and marry.."
"Well, the way we were thinking of handling it is: We'll spend one month here, training you a bit in basic combat and magic skills, some etiquette training.. Introduce you to the elders and important other Felisians in this city at a formal party and then we'll go around and introduce you to the princes of this planet. We'll have you back with at least two weeks to spare, so you have more time to decide on who to marry."
"I don't know if I can do this.. Combat? Magic? Etiquette? Marriage...?" Ally pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them, sighing sadly. She was too young for this kind of thing and she was totally confused. She wasn't cut out for stuff like that!
"Don't worry, Ally. I promise you, we'll get everything figured out in time. No matter what, I'll always be on your side, okay?" Craig winked over at her and she cast him a half-hearted smile of thanks, lowering her knees back down and nodding her head in acknowledgment.
"Don't mention it." he replied warmly, placing his tea cup back on the table and straightening himself up. "Any other questions? About me, perhaps?"
Ally chuckled at that and the corner of her mouth turned upwards into a smile, "Just one. How come you and Deacon 'belong to me?'"
A look of surprise came to Craig's face, he obviously hadn't been expecting that.
"Well, you picked us yourself when you were just a baby. We came from two seperate litters of kittens, or so I am told. It is tradition for the Felisian heirs to each have two Felisian cats."
"So, you and Deacon have been together for a long time..."
"Ya, he hates me, though.." Craig laughed nervously, sweatdropping as he said this.
A frown came to Ally's face and she made a face, muttering, "Well, he seems like a jerk to me, anyways!"
Craig chuckled, nodding his head in agreement. "He can be, but he really isn't a bad guy. I really wish we could get along," the smile fell, "But..."
"Since I was your first choice, I have always been more respected by the community. Not to mention that I have excelled at more things than he has. For that, he hates me.. I'd probably hate me, too, if I was him!"
"I guess I see what you mean.. That's such a shame, though.."
Craig smiled again, hoping that she would cheer up, "Maybe someday he will get over it. Speaking of which, we should probably go and find everyone again, before they think I've been doing something naughty with you."
With that being said, he winked at her and a look of surprise, followed by a blush, came to her face. She let out a nervous laugh. 'Why would they think that...?'
"R-Right.. Well, let me find some proper clothing first. I can't keep wearing these p.j's all day!" a pause, "Speaking of which... Who changed me last night?"
"Stella and Melody. Don't worry." he got to his feet and watched her do the same. "There are new clothes waiting for you upstairs anyways, so don't worry about that."
"That's a relief! Let's get going then."
With that, the two headed back towards the door, ready to continue with this crazy day.
